Cost guide
What a home studio costs, and what changes the number.
It is the question we hear on almost every call. The honest answer is that the room and what you want it to do decide the cost far more than any camera does. Here is what moves it, so you know where your money goes.
Why there is no single price
Most cost guides price the gear and stop there. Gear is the easy part. The room is what makes you look and sound expensive or cheap, and every room is different: the windows, the ceiling, the floor, the size, where the door is.
So we price the studio around your space and your goals on the discovery call, and you get a written quote you can share with a partner, a team or a board.
The five things that move the cost
In rough order of how much they matter:
- How many people are on camera. A solo setup is one key light, one mic and one camera angle. A two or four person set multiplies mics, lights and cameras, and adds switching.
- How much the room needs. A carpeted office with a door that closes needs little. A bare room with hard floors, big windows or a sloped ceiling needs acoustic treatment and light control.
- Who does the work. A plan you build yourself costs far less than a done-for-you install with cabling, mounting and furniture.
- The set. A clean, real backdrop can be simple shelving and a light. A branded feature wall, slat wood or custom panels cost more and look like it.
- Workflow and support. One-button recording, a teleprompter, automatic uploads to your editor, and ongoing editing are optional layers on top.
The three ways to work with us
The Studio Blueprint is a remote, custom 3D design of your room with a gear list matched to your budget. You buy and build it yourself. It is the lowest cost way to get it right the first time.
The Coached Setup adds live build sessions, so a designer walks you through framing, sound and the recording workflow as you go.
The Signature Studio Build is fully done for you. We design it, source the gear, build and install it on site, dial it in and train you. The gear is part of the build.
Where DIY gets expensive
The most expensive studio is the one you build three times. We hear it constantly: a ring light that put a donut in the eyes, a mic that picked up the whole house, a virtual background that made someone look like they were floating. Each one gets replaced, and the box goes in a closet.
Planning the room before you buy anything is the cheapest decision in the whole project.
Ways to spread the cost
You do not have to do it all at once. We often phase a build: lighting and audio first, because they make the biggest difference, then a better camera, then a teleprompter or a second angle. Payment plans are available too.
Good gear is also portable. If you move, the studio comes with you, and the first room becomes the template for the next one.

Common questions
How much does it cost to build a home video podcast studio?
It depends mostly on the room, how many people are on camera, and whether you build it yourself or have it done for you. We give a written quote after a discovery call, based on your actual space.
Is the gear included?
In a Signature Studio Build, yes. With the Studio Blueprint and Coached Setup, you get a gear list matched to your budget and buy it yourself.
What should I spend money on first?
Lighting, then audio. A webcam with good light and a good mic beats an expensive camera in a dark, echoey room every time.
Can I pay in stages?
Yes. We can phase the gear so the highest impact pieces come first, and payment plans are available.
Is it worth it if I only record now and then?
If you are on video calls, interviews or guest spots every week, yes. The same room makes every one of those look better, not just the recordings.
Want this worked out for your room?
Book a discovery call and we will talk through your space, what you record, and the right way to build it. Not sure yet? Take the two-minute studio quiz.
