Why I Stopped Sending Calendar Links
A calendar link says 'my time is free for the taking.' Productizing it, fixed scope, fixed price, paid up front, changed who showed up and how the conversations went.

For a long time my answer to "can we talk?" was a calendar link. Frictionless, generous, and quietly the wrong default. A bare link tells people one thing: my time is free for the taking. So they took it, and the calls were a grab bag. Some great, plenty that should've been an email, a few no-shows that cost me a morning.
The shift wasn't a tool. It was deciding that my time is a product, and products have a shape: a name, a scope, and a price. "Pick my brain" became specific sessions, a quick studio check, a full setup review, a multi-session build-out, each with a length and a number attached.
The moment there's a price, the link stops being an open door and starts being a choice. The people who book have already decided it's worth it. That single change did more for the quality of the conversations than any agenda template ever did.
Charging up front also reframes the call for both sides. When someone's paid, they show up prepared and they expect value, which is good, because now I show up prepared too. The transaction isn't cold; it's clarifying. We both know why we're here.
And the no-shows mostly vanished. It turns out the strongest commitment device isn't a reminder email. It's a receipt.
There's a softer benefit I didn't expect: it's kinder to the people who aren't a fit. A free link invites everyone and then disappoints most of them. A priced, scoped session lets people self-select, the ones who need a different starting point can find it, and the ones who are ready can buy with confidence. Fewer mismatched calls, less guilt, better outcomes on both ends.
I still believe in being generous with what you know. The blog is free, the advice is real. But my time, the live, one-to-one, in-the-room kind, is the scarce thing, and treating it like the open buffet it never was just burned it.
So the calendar link is gone. In its place: pick the session that fits, pay, then choose a time. If that sounds like the right kind of friction, here are the sessions.
